Qatari Diplomat Mohammed al Modadi Shoe Bomber Or Just Smoking In Bathroom?
The FBI is questioning a man, Mohammed al Modadi, who reportedly tried to ignite his shoes on a DC to Denver flight Wednesday. Read more on this story below.
Federal officials said that a half hour before the jet landed, a flight attendant smelled smoke as a passenger was coming out of a restroom and alerted an air marshal. The marshal confronted the man, and the man reportedly said he was trying to light his shoe.
No explosives were found and the search of the plane with bomb-detecting dogs also turned up no explosives.
The man, Mohammed al Modadi, is a Qatari diplomat in his twenties who was assigned to the embassy in Washington. He may have full diplomatic immunity.
The pilot declared an emergency and military jets scrambled and escorted the jet into Denver, where the plane remained in a secure area.
This past week, new security measures were announced. The countries listed as “state sponsors of terrorism” included Cuba, Iran, Sudan and Syria, Afghanistan, Algeria, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Somalia and Yemen.
Was this just a man sneaking a smoke or a terrorist act that was stopped?
