A family in JP Nagar escaped from being murdered, thanks to their neighbour who alerted the police about the suspected killers.

Police arrested Rajendra (32) of S R Nagar, the prime suspect and his associates - Lingamurthy (27), of JP Nagar 7th phase, Ravi (38), Vasanthi (28), A V Saravankumar (41) and Ramesh (29), all from K R Puram on a charge of conspiracy for murder.

According to the police, Rajendra had allegedly given supari to his associates to kill his relative Shankarachari, who stays in JP Nagar 6th phase, his wife Jayalakshmi and daughter Bhavana, over old rivalry.

Rajendra directed the would-be killers to Shankarachari’s house near Puttenahalli lake, ascertaining that Shankarachari was away from the house, while his wife and daughter were at home. He instructed them to introduce themselves as Shankarachari’s friends and tell his wife that they had come to discuss about a loan. He instructed them to throw chilli powder into Jayalakshmi’s eyes, stab her and Bhavana, collect valuables and abscond, added the police.

When the would-be killers visited her house, Jayalakshmi spoke to them but did not open the door. Suspicious about them, she called her husband. Shankarachari immediately contacted his neighbour Swamy and asked to check out the visitors.

Seeing Swamy, the group left the house but went to a closeby temple to plan their next move. Swamy immediately called up the police and informed them about the mysterious visitors. Police rushed to the spot and secured them for questioning. Under interrogation, they revealed their murder plan. Police arrested Rajendra on the basis of their information.
