SMOLENSK: Pilot error is suspected as a cause in the crash Saturday in western Russia of the plane carrying President Lech Kaczynski and other top Polish officials, Russian news agencies reported.
"The cause of the plane crash was apparently an error by the crew during the approach to landing," Russian state news agency RIA Novosti quoted an unnamed official in the Russian region of Smolensk as saying.

Tu-154: a legend of civil aviation
Polish Foreign Ministry press secretary Petr Paszkowski said the Tu-154 passenger plane with Polish President Lech Kaczynski crashed some 300-400 meters from the runway near the Russian city of Smolensk on Saturday while landing in heavy fog.
Paszkowski said the Polish president was heading a delegation that was to attend the Katyn ceremonies in southwest Russia in honor of the mass killing of Polish officers on the brink of WWII.
According to a Russian Investigative Committee member, Vladimir Markin, there were 132 people on board the aircraft. Everyone on board the aircraft died.
"The plane crashed during landing after it caught onto a tree," Paszkowski said.
Kaczynski was traveling with his wife, Maria, as well as delegates from the Polish National Memorial Institute and the vice-speaker of the Polish Parliament.

Man alleging misuse of dowry act performs 'shraadh' for self
Man alleging misuse of dowry act performs 'shraadh' for self
Times News Network, Apr 10, 2010, 05.44am IST
LUCKNOW: Former state government employee and a resident of the Old City, Pandit Ram Shankar performed a shraadh ceremony on Friday that was 'different'. Shankar performed the ceremony for the 'departed soul' of Akhil Dubey, a Lucknow-based pharma executive. But here's the catch. Dubey, alive and kicking, was part of the ceremony. As for why he felt the need for performing the 'shraadh' — Dubey was commemorating his 'death' as a common man, on the same day, exactly one year ago.
Here's what prompted such extreme action. After tying the knot on November 2008, Dubey alleges that he discovered that his wife was already married and also had a child. Shocked on making the discovery, he attempted to "resolve" the issue but met with little success.
"Two months later, when I moved divorce proceedings against her, she slapped a case of dowry harassment against me under section 498 A of the Indian Penal Code," says Dubey. Under this section, on April 9, 2009, an FIR was registered against Dubey. "That day marked my death as a common man. In the eyes of the world, I became branded as a criminal," adds Dubey.
And to commemorate his 'criminal status' one year on, the 'shraadh' ceremony respectfully remembered Dubey for the 'decent and common man' that he used to be.
As for the sanctity of such religious rites, Shankar defends the act saying the Indian scriptures allow a living person to perform his 'shraadh'. "The 'Garud Puran' allows people to do their own 'pind daan' while they are alive. Especially those who do not have children and cannot perform the rites after their death. Similarly, the ceremonies for the 10th and 13th day can also be performed in advance," says Pandit Ram Shankar.
The unique event was organised by a Lucknow-based NGO, Pati Parivar Kalyan Samiti (PPKS), a group of "afflicted" husbands who have been protesting the misuse of section 498 A of the IPC by women.
According to this section of the IPC, if the husband or his relative subjects a woman to cruelty, he shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years and is also liable to pay a fine. The offence is cognizable, non-compoundable and non-bailable. Interestingly, the protest against the misuse of the law by women has been gaining ground across the country. Seeking to be absolved from the status of 'criminals' and to voice their protest, over 2,000 members of PPKS Lucknow, routinely, bail out other aggrieved husbands and also instruct them on how to get out of the procedural tangles involved in the issue

Equality for women !
Equality for women !
Equality for women has become a misnomer. Female emancipation , women lib , women empowerment etc have been fined tuned into an industry and gone so far that men are in dire need of emancipation now
Look at the following
- World over four out of five suicides are male.
- If the man commits suicide the women gets sympathy and another husband. If woman commits suicide the man is suspect and gets a criminal case slapped on him.
- The vast majority of deaths on the job are male. I mean normal, peacetime jobs !
- Men get drafted in large numbers to armed forces and every border duty. The ratio of men dying from angry bullets or grenades or cannons hots is probably 200 times more than women dying out of these causes. There are more dying on our borders than due to rape.. All these male deaths are footnotes and worth 2 minutes. One rape and it becomes headline and is discussed in every channel
- Men get destroyed in divorce and family courts, are ordered to pay extortionate alimony, and shoved in prison when they cannot keep up payments ...how many women have been ordered to pay alimony ? and how many of these showed into prison for non payment ?
- When men are raped, it is made into a punchline, a joke. The rapist may be a thug, the rape may happen in a jail cell, there may be nowhere to escape, still the raped man is a looser and the rape a joke
- Men are not taken seriously when they claim domestic violence or rape. Conversely, men are shoved into prison or get subjected to humiliating medical examinations, because women are automatically believed when they cry rape, truthfully or not.
- Men are convicted more often, receive longer sentences, and receive less chance of parole, for the same crimes as women.
- Many a time, consensual sex suddenly becomes Rape !! and IF the man did NOT have something like a good video recording of the entire act ...which probably no sane guy would have, he is showed in prison for rest of his life. Example : http://bit.ly/akO4fj
- Child custody, domestic violence etc are industries ...money making industries... men are milked, women get some portion of the booty and the rest goes to the "industry". http://www.saveindianfamily.org/
- in most developing countries fathers are turned against husbands, brothers are turned against husband, brothers are turned against brothers...in short domestic wars start with women and end with men being called killers, men ending their lives , men loosing property or ending up in prison. Example http://bit.ly/c40PRM
- The myth of the female infanticide... ..the statistics is so biased that right now even in developing countries these statistics are no longer valid . In reality Women demand the BEST husbands...demand the max benefits in household (called you earn.. I spend) an best protection under law
- the Family system ... bedrock of the world is slowly going to dogs
amen !

Mumbai: Close on the heels of the alleged rape of a 25-year-old woman in Hinjewadi last week, a 19-year-old girl was allegedly raped by two army jawans while on duty. The incident took place on Wednesday night in an isolated area near Swaraj Garden at Pimple Saudagar under Sangvi police station jurisdiction.
The victim works as a waitress at a hotel near Morwadi. Sangvi police have arrested the two jawans from 17 Rajputana Rifles identified as Rajneesh Suresh Chandra Kumar, 26, of Uttar Pradesh and Saumdar Mahipal Singh, 30, of Rajasthan on Thursday.
Assistant commissioner of police Vishnu Mane said the victim had gone to Swaraj Garden to meet her boyfriend around 8.30 pm on Wednesday. “As they were talking, the two jawans — one of them in army attire and the other dressed casually — arrived on the scene. One of them allegedly beat the boyfriend and took the girl to a bunker in the garden and raped her,” Mane said. When the girl tried to scream, the suspects threatened her with a sharp weapon.
The suspects took the girl’s cellphone number and said she would have to come whenever they called her. They called her at 11 pm the same night.
On Thursday, the girl lodged a police complaint. “We laid a trap, but the jawans didn’t come. Inspector BS Sonawane then spoke to the commanding officer of 17 Rajputana Rifles who handed them over,” he added. The suspects have been booked for gang rape and have been remanded in police custody till April 15.

Call records give the lie to rape charge
Abhinav Garg , TNN, Mar 17, 2010, 05.33am IST
NEW DELHI: Relying on evidence gleaned from call records and mapping of the accused’ movement through location of cell phone towers, the Delhi High Court has acquitted a Delhi Police constable of raping a woman. Instead, the court found it was sex by consent.
A division bench comprising Justice Pradeep Nandrajog and Justice Suresh Kait reversed the ruling by a trial court and set free Vijender Singh, accused of raping a woman who ran a boutique in Kalkaji. The judges concluded that the duo had consensual sex as the woman wanted Singh, who was a beat constable in Kalkaji in 2004, to threaten her husband and in-laws.
‘‘It is apparent that the two were known to each other. It is apparent that the woman was using the services of Singh to further her interest in the criminal prosecution which she had launched against her husband and in return, he was using her youth...if at all they had sex in the night as claimed by the woman it has to be sex by consent,’’ the bench noted saying no offence of rape is made out.
HC zeroed in on the woman and her false claim after browsing through the detailed call records that showed how many times the duo conversed on their mobile phones on the night when she claimed she was raped. Evidence from the records showed the woman was in regular touch with Singh, with 8 calls exchanged between them on December 22 and 23, 2004. Moreover, the court also verified claims by Singh that he was seduced by the woman to have sex with her, by retracing his movement on the day of the alleged offence. The towers showed Singh’s presence at various locations, belying the claim of the complainant that she was raped on that day.
On her part, the woman had alleged she was raped and tried to make light of the several phone calls by claiming Singh must have called on her mobile and ‘‘left it open for 8 minutes.’’
While trashing her defence, the court also severely criticized the lower court for ignoring such strong material evidence in the form of call records. ‘‘The trial judge has dealt with the evidence in most clumsy and injudicious manner. He has treated the issue as if it was child’s play and has trivialized it,’’ HC noted.

Woman gets father to stab and kill mother in law. Man arrested, daughter in law goes scott free
News headline : Man stabs to death daughter’s mother-in-law

Friday, 09 April 2010
CHANDIGARH: A Mohali resident allegedly stabbed his daughter’s mother-in-law to death at her Sector 55 home here.
The police arrested the suspect, identified as Ved Parkash Kalra, from the scene, claiming the latter had told them his daughter was being harassed by her husband’s family members.
According to the police on Thursday, the incident occurred at about 11:30 pm on Wednesday night when Kalra, a resident of Phase II in Mohali, was alleged to have repeatedly stabbed the 50-year-old victim, identified as Nirmala Babbar, following an altercation. He was reportedly under the influence of liquor at that time and had brought the knife with him. Nirmala’s son, Ravi Babbar, who sells diamonds and had just returned home at that time, was also injured in an attempt to save his mother.
Narrating the events leading up to his mother’s murder, Ravi said he had married his wife, Amrita Babbar, four years ago. They lived with their three-year old son and his mother. His wife had gone to her parent’s home on April 4 following a quarrel between them. The police said Amrita is a graduate while Ravi had only completed high school, which might be a possible cause behind their souring relationship.
Sector 39 police station SHO inspector Janak Rana said the suspect had brought a 10-inch long dagger with him, which was recovered from the house. He was produced before a local court that remanded him to judicial custody. A case of murder has been registered and the body was handed over to the family members after the postmortem.
